The use of soluble paper purge dams is a fast and cost-effective way of preparing pipes for introduction of the purge gas. Soluble paper dams can be used for a wide range of pipe diameters (2" to over 28") and can be used in any pipe that can be flushed with liquid after welding.
For small diameter pipes (smaller than 4"), the paper can simply be positioned as a wad on each side of the weld, several inches away from the sections to be joined. For larger diameter pipes (larger than 4"), the paper is cut into a circle with a diameter that is several inches larger than the pipe diameter.
After welding is completed, flushing the pipe with water will dissolve the paper and tape without leaving any residue.
